So… I may or not have stupidly poured a small pinch of fairy shrimp eggs into my aquarium a few weeks ago. Didn't think of the other eggs that might have come with them…

All of them died after hatching, but now I have detritus worms, planaria, a red-ish worm, green hydra, and tiny white dots that move at the speed of light.

I haven't seen the red worms at all lately, but I regularly see the detritus worms. Today, I saw this insect gliding on the surface and after asking ChatGPT it said it's a midge fly…

What is this and how do I get rid of it?! It's so quick, I can't catch it with the net. And my biggest question is can it fly? 😭

And in pic #3 I swear it looked at me, man…

  1. Pondskater here in Australia, they’re predatory here too. Not sure about where you are

It’s the nymph of a water cricket or a pond skater, don’t worry, they’re harmless and don’t eat fish, instead mainly feeding on other small aquatic insects or terrestrial ones that fall onto the water surface
