I’m not sure if my posts even show up here because I’ve gotten zero comments or help. My guy has been sick for a few weeks now, not eating, laying in the bottom of his tank. I’ve done a course of erythromycin, then did salt water treatments. After 7 days of no improvement, I did a 7 day course of melafix and Pimafix and still no change. Came home today and he’s in the same spot as this morning and he’s shaking his fins like he’s trying to swim but not going anywhere, and his breathing seems very labored. Is it time to let him go?

I’m sorry dude, I don’t know enough. Hope you get the help you need. Commenting to help it get more views.

  2. The same thing happened to my baby about a month ago. I just moved into a house and he was never the same after the move. I ended up letting him go naturally, but I did try hand feeding before it got to that. It might be something to consider. I was thinking it was a swim bladder issue

Wish I had more advice but I dont.. I’m sorry you gotta go thru this 🙁 def add flair to it next time… should help you with more replies…

  4. At the beginning of July, my betta started doing the exact same thing. I was sobbing so much and he ended up passing away naturally on 4th of July 😢 it makes me nauseous thinking about it and seeing how he changed colors out of sickness and how much he was suffering I felt like it was all my fault, but it was bound to happen. I would recommend euthanizing to help with the pain and take him out of his suffering. 😕😕

  5. I feel you. I asked for help in a different sub on two different occasions & and received nothing. Idk what’s going on with that, it’s weird.

When mine got to this point, I euthanized. Although, she had a tumor that took over most of her head. It sounds like you’ve done everything you can & it’s up to you if you think he’s suffering and has had enough. Maybe someone will think or something that may help.

    I’m so sorry. 🙁

I can’t quite tell in the video, are his scales pineconing or does he have any swelling? Is he eating? Betta fish normally eat til the bitter end, so if he’s not eating any more, I think he’s ready to go 😔

  7. Sorry to be blunt, but how do you euthanize a fish without causing more distress than a natural death? And, really how?

  8. How is your tank aeration? Any possibility you overdosed water conditioner? It consumes oxygen. What are your water parameters?

  9. Have you done water changes recently? I’ve read this medicine can be tough on Bettas. If he’s having trouble breathing perhaps there’s too much in the tank now. Melafix can coat the labyrinth organ and cause breathing issues. are you using a hospital tank or dosing your main?

Anything with “fix” in the name is bad news for bettas. They contain oils that absolutely ruin their respiratory system. That said, I wouldn’t give up on him yet.

Do a major water change (50%), up the temp to 82°, dose with ichx and maracyn2 – they’ll cover any parasitic and your major bacterial infections. Will it help? Maybe. But in my humble opinion it’s worth a shot.

  11. What’s the temperature at ? I’d bump it up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and maybe if you can get some kind of general antibiotics and try that in a hospital tank

  12. if it seems he isn’t improving and doesn’t have quality of life anymore it may be time to let him go </3 i commend you for trying to save your betta. hopefully he can still somehow be saved
