Edmonds Fishing Pier Confrontation

My girlfriend and I decided to try the Edmonds, WA fishing pier for the first time.

When we arrived, this guy was at the very far end of the pier, screaming loudly at small boats and kayaks who were cutting through the designated fishing area. We marveled at the apparent drama, and setup our gear in the only spot available— About 20ft down from what looked like crab pot lines in the water (tied to the railing).

We smash the barbs on our hooks, and start fishing. Lo and behold, the screamer from the end of the pier walks down, reels in the crab pots, and literally throws them right in front of us.

I mention politely that he cast in front of our lines, and he storms off while mumbling something that sounded like “don’t fish so close to my pots”. Honestly, I thought I was hearing things, but I tend to believe the good in people.

However, the guy would return and do the same thing again. Remember that we were *20 feet away* from this guy’s spot on the rail.

As before, I politely and non-confrontationally mentioned that he threw his pots directly across our lines (in other words, he threw them sideways, to his right, down the railing), except for this time he stormed away silently without responding.

Every time he walked away after casting his pots, he seemed to go down to the far end of the pier, perhaps to fish with a rod, but I wasn’t exactly sure. He definitely left his crab pots alone, and across our lines.

So, this time, I used the minimum amount of force necessary to tug on his crab pot lines to move them from across our fishing lines.

He notices this, and this is where the video begins. During the video, you will witness him intentionally cast his crab pots into our fishing lines, snagging them. As the video ends, he storms off saying that he should’ve thrown my phone into the water.

I decided that I wanted to pack up and leave the area, as I was lawfully carrying a concealed pistol. My girlfriend agreed, and we packed up and drove home.

I go fishing to relieve stress. First encounter with this dude and I wind in my line and find another spot far away from him. Do not engage ‘this’ in todays climate. My 2 sinkers.

PS- this reply is in no way a proclamation that I represent the internet.

I would’ve just moved. I mean, good on you for standing your ground, but I don’t really have the energy to deal with this when I’m fishing lol.

For having the profile name ‘scrappypunk’ y’all are both kind of little bitches. Not a very scrappy or punk move by filming and then saying ‘seeing what the internet says about it’. Just fight and get it over with. Y’all would probably be best friends once ya get to know eachother. After a long day of fishing you guys could take turns on eachother.

I have fished for 30 years and all my incidents have come from a pier! Va beach pier to be exact, the people that come everyday own the fucking thing will line the edges with crab traps and fish the end.it seems exactly like this situation.there’s benches every 12 ft that’s what you fish in front off except them every where is there’s.also if you catch a decent fish they will swarm you asking if they can have it .luckily I got a boat and fishing is relaxing and getting away from people now.

I would have packed up my things and came back and cut his ropes. What a massive tool.

  7. Maybe I’ve never noticed them but I’m pretty sure most the NC piers say no crab pots.

We have people that kingfish. They act like they own the pier in the fall. Just as frustrating. Glad I have a boat and don’t have to deal with this BS anymore.

Y’all are both getting high on confrontation, but I concur that guy was a dick.

I think this guy sits at home and jerks off while reading the fishing regs. What a complete and Total dick wallet.

  10. Dude is a bit overly high strung here. Absolutely. An asshole even.

    However.

“We’ll see what the internet says” gave me a physical reaction akin to cringing and gagging at once.

Just go fish somewhere else. The fuckin fish ain’t that important.

This is a good post for Am I The Asshole. But serious question, what is the dude with the hand line doing? I’m not familiar with that type of fishing. Whatever it is, it’s not something done here in Texas.

  12. He’s what we in the profession like to refer to as a jerkoff. Now there are a few other technical names I could use jerkoff is the most apt.

Call WDFW. They don’t fuck around. Short of that you’re just looking for attention online.

I fish lakes, I’ve been threatened by people that don’t like me fishing their docks, which is tough for them. WDFW has I. The past come out have a chat with them and even ticketed one Karen.

Just make sure you’re 100% compliant or they will tune you up as well and take ALL your gear. I’ve seen them take boats, trailers, trucks, gear and even houses. Their civil asset forfeiture ability is unparalleled when it comes to wildlife crimes.

Bruh thinks he owns the pier. But I’ll be real with you “we’ll see what the internet says” hit me pretty weird too. Next time just ask him how long his wife’s been gone. (She’s definitely gone)

Probably would have thrown him then his stuff over the pier before going home, or at least tried. Good for your for practicing patience. I certainly don’t have it
