These are called jig heads and they’re used with soft plastic baits.

Youll put a small soft plastic on the hook through the top and then out the side so the hook is sticking out. Jig the hook off of / close to the bottom where the fish are hanging out. Crappie are what people will fish for with these type of jig head (from what I know)

  3. Crappie (1/16 oz), smallmouth (1/16 – 1/8 oz), and walleye (1/8 – 1/4 oz). Freshwater drum will also bite on these. Panfishes will also bite for small 1/64 oz jigheads but you will need an ultralight rod to throw them out effectively.

  4. These are jig heads, not standard hooks.

You can use them as basic hooks if you wish, but they’re designed for jigging.

  5. The type of hook depends on what you are fishing for or how you intend to fish.

These jig heads are good for plastic grubs or vertical jigging with live or formerly live bait

I’ve got at least two rods rigged up with a jig head at any given point in time. Usually 1/16oz and a 1/8oz.

I fish with a jig head probably 90% of the time. Can be used with soft plastics, live bait, not-so-alive-anymore bait, bits of corn… they’ll catch just about anything.

Can jig them vertically (best with bait). Can cast and retrieve (best with plastic). Shit, you can stick a bobber above them and bobber fish (best when you’ve hit the fish whistle a few too many times and it’s time for a little kayak snooze).

I use these with 3 inch chartreuse twister tails on them at the local marina and have a good day catching small mouth along the docks.

These are great for panfish and have a chance of snagging a bass if one happens to get it before the bream

  9. Yes they will do just fine. You will tear plastics up but they are cheap so it’s a trade off

Saltwater fisher here we just toss shrimp on those and they work if you’re using the right color (which is always changing)

  11. Ok.. he mispronounced and said hooks but the original question, I think he means is; which color is best for fishing?

The Chartreuse head with a white curled tail grub is my #1 fish finding lure, bream, bass, croppie, catfish all day long.

People will say soft plastics but I’ve also caught my pb brown trout with a jig head and a worm.

  13. If they’re the ones I think they are, They are BEST suited for crappie, Bluegill/panfish, and maybe a few small mouths here and there (depending on your presentation, tube, worm, etc.)

  14. My all time favorite lure. Throw a plastic on it, or some live bait and a bobber, and lightly flick the wrist (jig it) here and there.

Just be careful if you are fishing where there are a lot of rocks and sticks/downed trees since you might get alot of snags
