I have caught him before, he will give up for a bit but will always come back to stalk my catches. I don’t want to kill him.
He will always take my bluegill and runs away with it. I have to fight him for several minutes, that’s a 6 wt fly rod he is bending. He eventually gives up and spits it out, by the time I land the bluegill it is shredded and not going to survive so I usually end up feeding the big bastard anyway, rewarding his “bad” behavior.
The only way I can get past him is yanking my catch out of the water basically flinging it out before big boy can grab it which I don’t really want to do since I usually catch and release. What should I do here? I can’t move to a different spot I only own this small strip of land to access the lake. Maybe there’s nothing I can do and I’m just sharing my frustration

Get a decent sized lure resembling a real bluegill and see how big he actually is!
Switch to a bluegill colored bass bait and sore mouth him a couple of times (hook him ) he’ll leave you for awhile
Target the bass which I would do anyway and spank him. He leaves you alone for awhile. Rinse repeat. Or get a kayak
Said bass would become dinner
Catch a dozen or so small bluegill and get some big hooks like 6/0 and use bluegill as live bait.
The same bass over and over??? That is pretty hilarious.
Walk down the bank a ways and put him back somewhere else?
Get a kiddie pool and a bubbler. Catch the bass and put her in the pool until your done catching bluegill then return the bass to the pond. Maybe give her a gill for the inconvenience

This is the opposite of a problem.
Bigger hook, use small bluegill as bass bait.
You need to yell at him to stop. Yell really loud because hea under water.
Get a second rod and float a bluegill imitation w/ no hook under a bobber. Maybe it’ll be enough of a distraction for it to not fuck with your catch.
Throw the bluegill back as live bait if allowed. Like the other poster said you could use larger hook, or you can add a stinger

Get a real bluegill looking bait, remove hooks and attach to little RC boat. Then you lead the bass away while you catch your bluegill.
Throw him a bluegill with a 4/0 hook just behind the dorsal fin. Catch him and see how big he is.

That thing is a bruiser… When I was a kid there was an old lady that used to let my friend and I fish in her farm pond… that’s when I learned bass will eat sunfish/bluegills.. (I was probably 10) my fishing pole was old and pretty beat up.. I landed a few of those panfish eaters… I’d throw my fishing pole down & pull them in by hand.. but nothing that big.. fond memories

Id say catch a gill, string some heavy line through it’s mouth and just leave it in the water tied to something heavy/on the bank. He’ll be so fascinated/frustrated by swallowing it and spitting it back out that he’ll probably be over gills by the time he swims away -do this a few times and he’ll stop hitting the gills. Id recommend about 30lb mono.
Sorry, but I think it’s pretty hilarious that the fish seems to be trolling you. Maybe they just appreciate the easy meal that “food on a string” presents. You don’t get to be that big by skipping meals. Seems he/she doesn’t mind being caught either. Maybe they just want a belly scratch and a snack, like man’s best friend?
