In preparation for an upcoming surf fishing trip I have been asking a lot of questions and been getting great advice from everyone. I wanted to share some of the little advice that I have. I've been struggling to throw a 6' cast net since I bought it a few years ago. There are countless videos showing many different methods (with and without teeth) to throw cast nets. I haven't tired any using teeth (nor do I want to) but instead have tried various other methods. The only one I have consistently found success with is the linked video. He also shows how to cast short and far.

Some tips I have found not mentioned in the video are 1) after you check for tangles, hold the net by the yoke and bounce it up and down to get any twists out and get the braille lines straight and tight. 2) After you grab the first part of the lead line you then have have 2 vertical lines being the front and back. When you go to grab the front and then the back make sure you are grabbing it with your palm up and your fingers on the inside of the net. This will loop the short strands and help reduce the net getting tangled when throwing. 3) at the very last second before you let go of the net with your dominate hand, snap your wrist to add a little extra spin which helps open it up.

Using this method, I have been able to get consistently get 75%+ amount of the net to open compared to the other methods which often just tangled.
