Hello,

I'm new in the fishing world. I did some fishing when I was young, rainbow trout but that's all.

So I'm living in Quebec,Canada and I will go fishing on st lawrence river. I will go with a 20 HP fuel motoring a 15' rowboat from this location :

https://maps.app.goo.gl/xHT85QYuYiAbdgm78

It's a friendly tournament without any rules but the goal is to bring back Pyke, walleye or smallmouth bass.

I just received a lots of fishing gear because some family members stopped fishing and they give me everything.
So I have 9 fishing rods and a lot of lure and hooks.
Mostly medium light medium or medium heavy.

But I don't have any sonar and I don't plan to buy one for Thursday.

I want to prepare 2 fishing rods for the day, also people told me fishing bass is fun so I think I will aim the smallmouth for this day.

I was thinking about maybe one for trolley and one when we don't move.

But I don't know what it could be good.
I was thinking about jigging when we stopped moving with a crankbait or a lunker city salad spoon with a weight(I don't have any idea which size)

And a spinner for the trolley.

What do you think ?

Thank you for the help 🙂

And sorry for my English, I'm a French Canadian first so my English isn't perfect.

  1. As a kayak fisherman who trolls for bass, I’ve actually wanted to make a comprehensive list of what has worked and what hasnt as there isnt a big bank of knowledge on the internet about trolling for bass. But for the sake of this post, i’ll give the most effective I’ve found that absolutely work for smallmouth, walleye and Pike.

3 (go 4 or 5 if you want primarily pike) inch swimbaits rigged on a single hook jighead:

terminal: z-man jigheads, Northland Smeltinator/Dirty Jigs Guppy Head, VMC hybrid all great.
Baits: Gambler TZ for stained water (Laguna Glass), Megabass Hazedong/Spark Shad for clear. Keitech Swing Impact for either.

Crankbait/jerkbait trolling: Duo Realis shad 59mr, megabass X-Nanahan (regular or +1), Megabass 110 Jr (regular or +1) (but honestly, any thinner jerkbaits offered up by Bass pro xps staredown, Shimano, 6th Sense…all good), Dynamic Lures HD Trout (this is a numbers lure for me for shallow running Walleye/smallmouth but not necessarily a size bait).

As for bottom jigging, I’ll start with z-man finesse shroomz head and the 3 inch swimbaits and do hop-hop-pause-slow drag. If i feel any resistance or see the line move, I reel down and set the hook. 80% of the time, it’s a fish. 20% it’s a snag. For worms, I use the Big TRD on a 1/10th on a Pro Shroomz head

Spinners/spoons are kinda my last resort but that’s a preference thing. Plus I’d imagine, up in Canada those fish see them a ton

Hope this helps in any way
