I made the transom with Bed Corner Brackets from Amazon, Cedar 2×4’s, and a bit of PVC Paneling I had left over from making the trailer for this kayak. I added Eyebolts to keep the wires clean and contained.

Steering bracket from Amazon with the Rudder Wires for steering, they’re 47 strand vinyl coated stainless steel wires with copper crimps.

The rudder wires are ran into the kayak and pop out under my seat, I used pulleys to route them correctly and smoothly. This method allows me to unhook them to raise the trolling motor while keeping them tight otherwise for easy steering.

There is a pulley system to raise and lower the trolling motor, incase I want to go into very shallow water or heavily weeded areas. This is only possible with my steering system using the wires attached to a carabiner, because I can unhook them from the carabiner and raise the trolling motor. The cleat the cord runs through allows me to lock the height in place as well.

On the black control box, the PWM is mounted inside, controls are on the outside. There is just a small 3 way switch and a knob. 3 way switch controls Forward, Reverse, and Off. The Knob controls speed of the prop.

I used SAE plugs all around because they’re easy.
