I posted yesterday about this Platy, who I moved to my breeding tank as she looked like she was about to give birth.

Now I've noticed she's got this hanging out of her bum…

She's been doing some awfully big poops (which has happened before when she's nibbled on an algae wafer) but I've never seen the fleshy white/pink growth before. Is this a problem?

  1. This is certainly a problem, as it’s an irregularity. This appears to be a Hernia, or a slight prolapse. I have no idea how you’d treat this, and I didn’t find any sources on prolapses in Fish. All I found were 2 incidents of prolapses in Flowerhorns, and an operation performed on an Angelfish.

Here’s my thoughts: don’t feed today, and reduce feeding as to prevent this issue becoming any more severe than is necessary. Then treatments of salts or Erythromycin to reduce inflammation and swelling. Epsom Salt may also be helpful here.
