Topwater and shiner imitation baits

So im going to Bass pros/cabelas and need help choosing out some baits. I'm in northern Illinois and today at a small lake the fish were jumping out the water which I can only imagine are bass and i had seen a school of emerald shiners (I believe, they had blueish tails). I tried a dark sleeper and using it like a jig but no bites, what baits should I pick up while I'm there. Just need some sort of direction. Thanks
