Tie direct. If you use a snap swivel or split ring on a topwater like this it can pull your line down slightly when the bait is at rest and the front treble can snag it, ruining your cast.
If you want more freedom of movement, use a loop knot.

With a popper, a knot tied directly to the lure is completely fine. Some say to use a loop knot if you like to “walk” a popper.
