Acquired Finnegan here (betta in 3rd pic) unexpectedly as a neighbor moved out. Was living in a small bowl so I made the decision to attempt a fish-in cycle.
Used "live" substrate for the deeper planted parts on the edges of the tank, testing water lvls every other day for ph, ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.
Water was cloudy for about a week before the bloom settled down, and things seem to be progressing nicely!

I had a Finnegan! It was a snakeskin gourami ❤️ my one halfmoon boys name is fin diesel though 😂
