I started tossing flies only last year; only started catching this week. The wait has been well worth it, caught three fish in about 4 hours of fishing. Massive shoutout to the insanely friendly only other person fishing the high flow stream. Gave me water reading advice and fly advice, even took the pic of me with the Rainbow (which was my first fish landed, pulled from a pool behind a boulder).

Even better, caught all three on frenchies I tied myself, and with a rod and reel given by a wonderful older friend from the river. The rod is a Green River Rods custom 9” 5wt that belonged to her late husband, and I certainly felt he’d be fist pumping and sharing a beer in celebration if he knew his equipment helped a young newbie catch his first trout. This is a healing, friendly, beautiful hobby.

p.s. not in WV, just a fan. All fishes given lovingly back to their Utah stream home. May they grow and munch my flies another day.
