Haven’t fished in years, anything I fished with was set up and rigged by my father that I would just pilot.
Picked up a Okuma Cecilo light power, medium action 7’6 based off some recommendations for lake trout specifically. I have a presidential 35 that feels a bit big but would it work in the meantime or should I grab a smaller reel?
Also what line would you pair with the presidential? Leaning towards braided 10lb braided or 6-8 lb monofilament. Any advice between the two is appreciated

A 35 sized reel isn’t ideal for this rod but there’s no reason it won’t work. It might make the combo feel a bit unbalanced and it will need more line especially if you’re using light braid. 10lb powerpro or jbraid are good options for trout especially for casting smaller lures far.

  2. In reference to the action, M here means Moderate which isn’t a bad thing it’s just going to be more whippy than most rods.

Power = rod relative strength – Ultralight, Light, Medium Light, Medium, Medium Heavy, Heavy, X Heavy

Action = how the rod bends – Slow, Moderate, Mod-Fast, Fast, X Fast

A 35 president is a little big but it’ll “work”. 15lb braid would probably make sense.
