Don’t care if they’re tiny, I had a blast! First actual successful trip (more details in comments)

  1. Hey all! Firstly, big thanks to everyone commenting and posting here. I’ve been lurking since I started fishing a few months ago, just gathering knowledge and inspiration. This was my first time out that I had any real success, even if they’re tiny little fish–it was still tons of fun and I learned a lot about retrieves and got to practice tying knots and casting. I finally had the chance and time to go to a lake early in the morning and actually spend a few, unrushed hours fishing. I think that made all the difference, to be honest. This was also my first time catching anything on artificial lures ever. I think I got 5 species, but correct me if I’m wrong: Bluegill, black-tailed shiner, green sunfish, redbreast sunfish, and (a baby) largemouth bass.

The humble beetle spin was very successful, especially when tipped with a waxworm. Other than that the rooster tail worked pretty well, too. I tried for bigger bass with a wacky rigged senko and a Texas rigged Gulp worm, but got nothing. I was fishing from the shore and probably just couldn’t get the lures out far enough.

Anyway, hopefully this gets someone else hyped to get out there! I could really see myself getting pretty into microfishing…Ha!
