Just tried my hand at re-spooling my reel for the first time. I noticed it seems to “taper” down towards the bottom, is this normal?

Can I adjust the bale to line it more towards the bottom?

I watched videos that recommended filling the reel to 1/16th” of the end, do I look close to that?

Cheers

I have no idea how that happened but I’m sure it’s totally fine. Fish it and see. I bet you’re g2g

  2. It tapers like that because the line doesn’t lay properly on the spool. Your reel should come w/ some spacers that look like small, plastic washers. Since you have more line up on top you probably need to add a washer on the spindle to bump the spool up.

Its a small spool so remove the line somehow. Walk it off in the yard, spool it to another spool. Add the shim and then reel in the line. It should be more even on the spool after that. If you don’t have the shims check with your reels parts list.

You can probably get some more line on there but its perfectly fishable.

  3. Needs a shim or two under the spool. I don’t remember those reels coming with any extras, but if you look under the spool there’s probably one or two there already. If you have a tackle shop in your area that does reel repair they can probably hook you up with some that match. Or you can call Shakespeare and give them the reel model info and they’ll send you some.
