Forgive my super red and sweaty and unsmiling face. It was near on 100 degrees today with almost no breeze.

Went out to my SO’s parents property today. They have a private pond that’s about an acre in size, and averages about 4-6ft deep.

Her dad said he knew at one time a year or two ago there were a few “decent” sized bass in there. Somewhere between 2 and 4lbs.

So I threw on a wacky rigged watermelon senko. Worked it for like an hour. Had only one bite that I barely missed.

Then I toss over under this tree, and the line immediately starts pulling even before the senko had sunk all the way. So I set the hook and it starts pulling all over the place.

I had only brought my ultralight rig, so this dude was ripping some drag out and everything. Finally get him over the shoreline weeds and land him and just about shit myself.

Apologies about how bad the 2nd picture is. I had my 6 yo son take it. If you zoom in far enough you can see he measured out at around 10.5 inches.

Which, according to the Texas parks and wildlife dept is only about 2 inches off the state record.

(S)He was released unharmed back into the pond.

Looks like a hybrid sunfish, my guess would be something x green sunfish based on the mouth size, faint blue stripes on gill plate, and the highlight on the edge of the anal fin.
