I’m very much a beginner but I really enjoy it. I’m fishing off a small pier in Holden Beach NC and getting tons of strong bites where it feels like I have the fish and then it either lets go of the bait or jumps off the hook entirely? How do I secure the fish make sure I have it hooked?
I’m using 1/0 circle hooks with either squid bait or fish bites
I have uploaded two photos. One being the size of the pier and the other being the size of the fish that are usually caught.
PS I’ve learned to stop wearing gloves when handling the fish. Just wanted to use that as a reference photo
