I thought my pH was too low to grow nitrites because I use aqua soil.
Took forever but they're finally here. Figured I'd test for nitrates as well and I finally got some.
I did a 75% water change a few days ago and that reduced the ammonia. I also added in a 1/4 mesh bag of crushed coral. Might be a week or so for the ph to increase.
