I Just recently got into fishing and went overboard and built some new set ups. No boat of my own so I would like to do quite a bit of pier and surf fishing. Tampa Bay area. If anyone has any Spots they are willing to share, Please send a pm.
I have caught nothing inshore except old faithful blue gill and puffers and channel catfish. I see plenty of red drum and trout but they are always super uninterested in the bait I am using. Shrimp, frozen squid, minnows. I also bought quite a bit of soft baits and lures and have no idea when to use them.
I have 20 lb braid on most and I am running 40lb on the 5500 and 80lb on the 8000s. All have about 12 ft of leader 10-20lb up in weight. Should I make any changes to the line set ups?
- Uglystik GX2 6' medium with a Daiwa BG 3000
- Uglystik GX2 7' medium heavy with a Penn Pursuit IV 4000
- Uglystik GX2 7' medium with a JDM Baitcast 7:2:1
- Penn Spinfisher 8' medium heavy surf with a Penn Spinfisher 5500
- Penn Rampage 7' heavy with a Penn Fierce IV 8000
- Penn Mariner II 6' Heavy with a Penn Pursuit III 8000
I also bought two more JDM baitcast reels one with a 7:2:1 and a 10:1:1 gear ratio. Any lightweight rods I should add these too. I'm not comfortable enough with baitcasters to buy a reel worth the money.
