I’d go buy some live worms from Walmart or a bait shop. Way easier for a beginner rather then using artificial lures like in the pic, and normally catches more fish. Just use the hook, live worm , and bobber

  2. You definitely have the jig head wrong on the soft plastic purple lure on the line. Youtube video of how to hook jig head and it’ll show you much better than I can explain it.

I’m not sure what kind of knot you got going on either. I don’t know names of knots but again youtube fishing knot because it will say much better than I could explain.

My suggestion would probably be just forget about lure fishing right now. Tie a hook on (looks like you have some in bottom left but I can’t really tell) and use a bobber. Depending on how old your kid is, them fishing with a lure can be a pain in the ass lol. More than likely you’ll have better luck with bait as well instead of trying to learn how to lure fish. Not sure what kind of water you’re fishing so I can’t tell you what kind of bait to use.

    Have fun out there!

  3. That little yellow hook is called a jig and the head has a weight in it. You should tie the knot directly to that loop. It looks like you looped through and tied up high. Then the purple soft bait gets threaded on the hook from the flat top, You push the hook through the length of the body and out the side so the jig head becomes the little worms head with the tail fluttering behind. This type of lure is meant to be moved around, often straight down off the side of a boat. If you are shore fishing I would get a regular hook without the weight on it and tie it to the line. Add a bobber about 12in up the line and a small weight somewhere in between. That is a great beginner setup and should get some fish in your hands.

  4. Put all of that on a shelf in your garage. Tie a hook onto the end of your line with a Clinch knot, throw a night crawler on the hook and a bobber on your line about a foot above the worm. Throw it in the water and have fun!

Tie on one of those things in the top left square and cast it out and reel it in without letting it touch the bottom.
