This is a brackish water river in Florida. If you follow the river upstream it eventually leads to an inlet. No one in this area fishes in this part of the river but me. I’ve tried just about every lure in my tackle box to no prevail. I’ve tried paddle tails, top water, twitch baits, jerk baits, spoons, vudu shrimp, rat-l trap, etc. but no bites. I’ve even tried flies.

I’ve fished here morning and night. Ive fished on tide changes. I’ve fished all parts of the water column and not one bite. I see mullet, gar, mangrove snapper, snook, and catfish in the water. I know there is a lot of fish here as the water is very active. Lots of boils and mullet jumping. A lot of birds as well.

I usually use live bait but I want to be able to catch on artificial as the bait shop is a 30 min drive. Whenever I use live bait (shrimp) I always catch fish and it’s usually every cast almost too. It just seems the fish don’t like the artificial. I’ve also tried cut bait but nothing wanted that either.

Am I better off skipping the artificial and just cast netting mullet for live bait?

Trying to target:
Tarpon (main goal), snook, snapper, sheepshead, amberjack, crevalle jack, gar, and a bull shark would be cool lol

  1. From the dock: live crawler or senko, whopper flopper, rooster Tails, daredevils, shallow crank baits.

I’d throw a lot of stuff and see what’s hitting.

Make sure to fish all depths of the water colomn.
